PIRANHA
Since antiquity, as deities, pets, symbols of fertility or objects of fear, protection and luck, animal figurines have played a significant role in culture and theology.
Retaining the external anatomical contours of the carnivore, ‘Piranha’ abstracts the ferocious and legendary fish as a bio-mechanical machine, transposed by a metaphorical system of gears, levers, and linkages. After an intensively iterative design process that includes human and machine work, paper-thin sheets of mild steel are fabricated to create a three-dimensional form of the piranha, one that is strong and arresting.
